It is time to reconsider the culture of giving and receiving
Why build a culture of giving and receiving?
How would you feel if you eagerly awaited a meaningful gift from someone, only to receive something unusable, however expensive? No matter how sincere the giver was, wouldn't it still leave you feeling deeply let down and disappointed?!

Do not let your gift become someone else's disappointment
On the other hand, clothing “CHARITY” in Vietnam often faces a real problem: donations are merely a gesture, and donors are essentially trying to get rid of neglected items without sorting them or considering recipients' feelings. In short: clear it out and be done with it!!!
In some charitable activities, there have been instances of insincere actions. For example, donors have chosen revealing outfits (including swimwear and high heels), coats that have gone moldy after not being worn for a long time, or shirts with seductive cutouts. These have inadvertently tarnished the image of these “hearts of gold.”
This is also why the message “How you give matters more than what you give” was born; through it, Light Charity hopes to transform giver become people who truly wish to share their concern from the heart, through meaningful “gifts.”
For many years, in many other places, many people have needed intact, wearable clothing. Light Day is a major festival for sharing the difficulties of these “recipients.” Please do not bring recipients negative feelings or disappointment. Bring everyone a smile!
Furthermore, many recipients find themselves in a position of “having things given to them, being forced by circumstances to accept,” even though they do not want to receive help. The main reason is that the passive position of being a recipient can easily make them feel inferior to those around them.
So how can both sides benefit fully? It is time to reconsider the culture of giving and receiving from both perspectives.
How is the culture of giving and receiving practiced at Light Charity?
To deepen awareness of the culture of giving and receiving, we must put ourselves in both positions: giver and recipient.

Joining hands to create a meaningful festival filled with laughter
Light Charity constantly seeks ways, through the media and press, to advise donors and help them gain a better understanding of clothing donations. One piece of advice for those who want to become a Lighter as a “giver” is this: imagine yourself as the recipient—who might you be? Would you be happy with the clothes you are donating? If not, set those trousers or shirts aside instead of putting them into the donation bag. At the same time, whenever you sort clothes for donation, some of you will surely realize how wasteful you have been in buying clothes that were not useful, encouraging greater awareness of thrift in the future.
For donors, this means developing processes and spreading information about sorting items before donating, combined with communicating the message “How you give matters more than what you give”, for recipients, Light Charity worked very hard to answer the question: How can recipients feel they are doing something meaningful, rather than simply “being given” a usable item?
The answer is surprising and thought-provoking: for just VND 2,000, a “receiver” can buy an intact item that suits them, with the joy of having bought it rather than having been given it. At the same time, by becoming a “receiver,” you also contribute to fundraising that helps students overcome hardship and stay in school. Meaningful, isn't it?
