Light Charity – When CHARITY means more than just “giving and receiving”

To fulfill the mission “Make Vietnam a better place to live.”, Light Charity bases its work on social responsibility. We understand that to reach our ultimate goal, our first steps must be firmly grounded. This is also the main reason Light Charity developed its five-level model of charitable thinking, to change how people understand charitable work in Vietnam.

To create sustainable, long-term positive impact, Light Charity began by building fundamental foundations aimed at changing Vietnamese people's thinking and broadening the concept of “Charity” through long-term plans.

Imagine community activities in five levels: (1) giving people a fish, (2) giving them a fishing rod, (3) teaching them how to fish properly, (4) motivating them to fish, and (5) turning recipients of fish into people who share with others. In the long term, Light Charity will prioritize programs spanning several levels or starting at level 2 or above. More specifically, the organizing team will gradually develop the following charity model:

The foundational process behind Light Charity's campaigns

First Project: Light One +1,000,000 Garments of Love

The very first campaign succeeded in prompting Saigon's young people to see givers and recipients differently. It opened a broader horizon for charity workers to understand that “giving” and “receiving” had essentially meant only “giving someone a fish to get through the day,” rather than saving anyone's life!

Donors should understand that charity is not merely about giving someone an outfit. It means opening their hearts to empathize with and understand another person's feelings by putting themselves in the recipient's position. The clothes given should be intact and suitable for someone, rather than simply unusable clothing. Moreover, in the Light Charity model, donors become an important source of support in a long-term campaign: transparently digitizing records of items that are no longer useful to them but are needed by others.

Similarly, for recipients, Light One has successfully replaced the feeling of “being given” something with the joy of “being able to buy” useful items at a good price (2.000 VND per item). Alongside benefiting recipients, the proceeds from this charitable activity will be invested in Vietnam's future younger generation.

Based on the five-level thinking model, the clothes can be understood as the fish that help recipients quickly obtain the items they need.

With a long-term vision, we hope the organizers will develop the annual fund from Light One across all levels:

Level 1: Providing timely treatment and relief for child patients and families in hardship

Level 2: Building schools and healthcare facilities in disadvantaged areas

Level 3: Organizing training sessions to guide the development of disadvantaged young people and, through this, spreading the mindset and awareness of creating prosperity for the country.

Level 4: Inspiring people by sharing stories of noble acts and organizing workshops to change attitudes toward charity, alongside practical activities

Level 5: Recipients progress through the 5 levels to become successful people, then go on to share with others, continuing the cycle at increasingly higher levels.

Are you still young, healthy, and able to contribute? Do not hesitate — show Light Charity your helping hand. Do not leave others searching while remaining doubtful about phrases like “charity” and “real charity.” Join Light Charity to kindle trust in everyone. Charity is charity! Do good for those around you from your heart.
