Students sell secondhand clothes to raise funds for children with leukemia
Light Charity is an organization established in early 2018 to collect and sell used clothes to raise funds for children with leukemia. Light Charity in Quảng Ngãi has 60 members, most of whom are staff, lecturers, and students at Phạm Văn Đồng University and several other schools in the province.

On December 7, Light Charity held a used-clothing sale to raise funds for children with leukemia in Quảng Ngãi. Trần Thị Tuyết Mai, a lecturer at Phạm Văn Đồng University and a member of Light Charity Quảng Ngãi, said that instead of being thrown away, used clothes can still bring value through sharing when passed on to someone who needs them. Beyond that, used clothes can also raise funds to support children with leukemia. Clothing donations are being sought nationwide. In Quảng Ngãi, support has come from staff, lecturers, and students at Phạm Văn Đồng University, as well as other generous individuals and organizations.

Selling used clothes at the symbolic price of VND 2,000 per item attracted a considerable number of participants.

Rather than merely paying VND 2,000 for each item, most buyers donated extra to raise funds for children with leukemia. Ms. Trần Thị Trà from Tư Nghĩa District bought 2 sets of clothes, but the woman who had battled kidney failure for 9 years paid VND 50,000. “I have been ill for many years and my husband is a construction worker, but our children are all successful. I am better off than people with critical illnesses, so I want to help share their hardship,” Ms. Trà said.

Members of the Youth Union at Phạm Văn Đồng University enthusiastically participated in selling used clothes to raise funds for children with leukemia. “The university Youth Union provided volunteers and helped Light Charity publicize the activity. In addition to used clothes, staff and students donated money to support children with leukemia in Quảng Ngãi,” said Võ Duy Quân, Deputy Secretary of the Phạm Văn Đồng University Youth Union.
