The first Light One@Tây Nguyên event took place on August 18 and 19 in the 3 districts of Đắk Win, Cư Jút, and Đắk Nông, achieving results that the Lighters of the Central Highlands can be proud of.
At Light@Central Highlands, the Lighters organized flexibly to suit local conditions: collecting and selling clothing on the same Light Day; accepting book donations and giving them to disadvantaged children; auctioning 1 shirt for 60.000 VND; and working with 3 barbers who gave local people free haircuts.
After the program, more than 2500 clothing items had been sold, contributing to Angel Feet Dream Foundation a total of 4.500.000 VND; 10 sets of used books and 100 garments were given to families still facing hardship.
The program ended, leaving meaningful values and lessons with both recipients and givers.
“After large, high-profile campaigns in industrial parks and densely populated neighborhoods in Ho Chi Minh City, Cần Thơ, Đà Nẵng, Hà Nội, Phú Thọ… where thousands of garments were sold and thousands of disadvantaged workers could buy good clothes, here in the Central Highlands we focus on remote villages with just a few hundred households. Their annual income barely covers living costs and village-school expenses for their children, who wear threadbare clothes and carry patched schoolbags covered in road dust. In terms of money raised from clothing sales, we Central Highlands Lighters would not dare compare ourselves with anyone. But when it comes to the brightest, most sincere and unassuming smiles, we are confident we have achieved that,” Lighter Đàm Hùng shared.
“I have never been so tired from shopping for clothes. There are so many beautiful clothes for just 2 thousand that choosing is exhausting!” said a woman who had selected a large bag full of good clothes. She added 1 “bonus” burst of hearty laughter.
““I thought, how could I do charity when I am poor? Today I learned that anyone can do it. Who doesn't have 2 thousand? I am so happy, my dears,” shared an Hmong woman warmly, bent over with her grandchild on her back. Enabling anyone to give to charity is one of Light Charity's goals.
Together, Lighters in the Central Highlands and across the country have been creating positive impacts for disadvantaged people while spreading the spirit of charity, so that more people do good.
