Lighter Nguyễn Hữu Toàn’s reflections after the second Light One Saigon – Light Day 7.7.2018
“Four 7s”
I especially love the number 7, and luckily my birthday also falls on the 7th. But the “four sevens” I mean here are the wonderful experience I had on Saturday, July 7, at Tân Thuận Export Processing Zone in District 7.
One weekend, I set my work aside to devote all my time to the project #LightOneheld for the 2nd time in Saigon — a project collecting 1.000.000 secondhand garments and reselling them for 2.000 per item to raise funds for children with leukemiawhite.
A day of indescribable joy and happiness, a day when all I ate was half a loaf #bánhmìMáHải and a bottle of Sting, yet I was not tired; instead, I felt an immense supply of energy. I was even happier to work alongside more than “50 white-shirt warriors” to make this event a success. These wonderful people worked tirelessly under the blazing sun, their backs soaked in sweat and bodies growing weary… yet they did not stop, persevering together until 9 p.m. Those images and your quiet sacrifices will be a great source of motivation for me and others. Today, we helped a few children unfortunate enough to become ill; beyond that, we encouraged the community to join us, awakening COMPASSION in each person. I see that human kindness still exists, and you are the most wonderful Lighters!
Personally, I was very happy to participate in this program, meet you, work alongside you, and share our love to help disadvantaged children. Thank you, teacher Tuấn, Light Charity, and the Lighters for making it possible for me to take part. Thank you to the “eagle girl” who accompanied me throughout the event.
Wishing lasting peace and good health to everyone — Lighters, volunteers, and local residents who supported the program and had the good fortune to join our “four sevens”!
